#SewPINK Initiative Blog Hop 2026

It's that time again - I am so excited to be back for another year participating in the #SewPINK Blog Hop hosted by ByAnnie.com!

This year I want to talk about the great big, strange world of life after cancer - also known as, survivorship. I know survivorship means a lot of different things to different people, but for me it encompasses all of the ways I show up for a life that is a bit different than I expected.

Life after cancer has its challenges - both mentally and physically - and tending to it all is not easy. Survivorship is about more than going to follow-up oncology appointments (although those are important too, of course). For me, it's about allowing myself to feel joy and happiness alongside the sadness, grief, and fear, that come along with cancer. It's also about having things to look forward to, resting, feeling as comfortable as possible in my body, reminding myself that I am doing the best I can, reaching out for support when I need it, and just noticing how I am part of something bigger than myself.

Some of the best ways I've found to carry on as a cancer survivor are spending time with my sweet family and friends, going outside, taking pictures of things that grow and tiny wild creatures, rescuing and walking dogs from the shelter, and last but not least... being creative! My favorite ways to be creative are quilting and bag making but I also love knitting!

If you're a cancer survivor too, I'd love to hear how you are navigating survivorship! Let me know if the comments if you'd like to share!

Next up - the project! This year's project was SO much fun. I chose the Stash and Dash pattern from ByAnnie.come. It's an adorable little pouch that you can use to store sewing notions, travel supplies, precious treasures, or just about anything!

Lately I've been so excited about any new and upcoming fabric collections and notions featuring neon colors. So I chose fabrics from Rashida Coleman-Hale's Lofi Linen collection (just released) and her future collection, Float, which is out in January.

Some things I loved about this pattern are the construction techniques and instructions which are always excellent in ByAnnie.com patterns!

I also love the way the pattern has enough flexibility to be able to add extra details or finishing touches to make it my own!

I used ByAnnie.come zippers-by-the yard in Coral (a new color!) and it's so beautiful and a perfect match for my fabrics!

If you love fun, cute, easy-to-follow patterns that result in something both beautiful and practical that you will love using, you have to try this pattern!

You can find all of the supplies on ByAnnie.com, including Soft and Stable, mesh and vinyl (although I didn't end up adding a vinyl pocket) as well as any hardware you may need!

I truly love being part of this initiative and am so grateful to Annie and her team for hosting such an important event to help raise awareness and create community.

Thank you for inviting me back each year and providing high quality supplies that are such a pleasure to work with!

*I am going to be doing a giveaway for a kit to make your own Stash and Dash pouch over on my Instagram page @sleepyhouse.studio so make sure you're following along!

The #SewPINK Initiative’s mission is to raise awareness, promote screenings, foster community, and support cancer research throughout the year.

Efforts culminate in an annual blog hop during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but our commitment to cancer awareness and support continues year-round.

Thanks, Justine, for sharing your story and thoughts about “survivorship”. That is such an important topic and I appreciated your ideas for celebrating the journey. Your Stash and Dash is SO cute and I know you’ll love using it. We so appreciate you being part of our #SewPINK blog hop. Thanks for helping spread the word about cancer awareness.

Yes—it is true isn’t it—the “Survivorship” is the part the medical community doesn’t talk about. Life after is never the same as before—it is still good—but never the same. I am 4-1/2 years out from breast cancer. I think I take each day as a gift now—more than before—and I was quite happy with life then—now it seems like connecting is more urgent—in all kinds of ways—spiritually with the Lord, making time for family a priority and time spent observing the beauty in nature all have a urgency element to them. Leaving a legacy for my grandkids—super important!! Thank you for sharing this important part of the journey!!! Hold fast!! Terri

Justine, thank you for sharing your candid survivorship story. You have a great circle of friends and family thats for sure. Getting out in nature and just being is so important as you’ve relayed.
Keep on stitching, walking those puppies, knitting and being the best version of you
